A MOMENT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Being in-the-moment is often associated with mindfulness, yoga, and breathing exercises. While not a new concept, the interest in it has significantly increased over the past decade. For me, being in the moment is about how deeply we observe and therefore interact or engage with that moment.

The project consists of a sequence of immersive photographs and ceramic sculptures that meditates on the perception of time. The glaze presents a moment of spectacle that is captivating, using the amalgamation of color, scale and detail. Through extensive research of various oxides and layering of glazes, I have been searching for a sense of movement, motion, and depth. While the glaze presents a frozen moment in time, its exploration and observation happen over time. This allows for a rupture of chronological time and invites an

“in-the-moment” experience. A moment that keeps on giving aims to reveal new details and insights by way of ongoing observation.

WHAT WOULD THEY SAY?

Clothes provide protection against weather conditions, insects, and infectious diseases, but it has evolved to become much more than just a means of covering the body. It personalizes and enhance our appearance and reflects our ever-changing identities. As our tastes and lifestyles shift, so do our wardrobes and the amount of clothing we purchase.

The rise of "Fast Fashion" has led to a massive amount of clothing being discarded each year, significantly impacting the environment. This project addresses the challenge of fashion waste resulted form "Fast Fashion" by reimagining "unwanted" clothing. The result is a fully customizable chair and storage system. The innovative system allows fabric rolls to be used without deconstructing or degrading the material, enabling adjustments to cushion thickness and offering the possibility of re-wearing the clothes as needed.

LEUKEMIA DEPARTMENT AT "RIGSHOSPITALET"

A collaboration project with Anouk Oosterbaan, Christian Lindkvist, Miamaja Olsson and “Rigshospitalet” in Copenhagen. The design question was to reinvent the existing waiting room for leukemia patients. The diverse group of patients wanted a place to feel comfortable during the long days of treatments.

Searching for social and private areas through transparency and translucency was our main inspiration. The result is one flowing movement with different zones. On one side, the patient sees a more open space to socialize, chat or have a coffee and is more inviting to the treatment rooms. On the other side it feels more private, here you can relax an and escape the hospital environment. It was a search to make the patients feel at ease during hospital visits.

IN A MOMENT OF A CRISIS

A crisis is a moment in time where things might feel difficult or challenging. Something we can all relate to and usually try to avoid. In this project I explored the concept of a crisis, capturing a specific moment within a crisis where beauty emerges within a deconstructed landscape.

The spatial intervention is an aesthetic play of chaos and instability controlled by a tight composition. The firm grid acts as a skeleton and is ruled by a sense of harmony and structure. It guides the viewer in this landscape of destruction. The gray background is a negative space to counterbalance the deconstructive elements. Beyond the burning ruins, an interplay of light and shadow is brought to life in the uncontrolled environment. Looking through fragmented openings in the panels, the viewer sees a disrupted view of the world, trying to connect with the other side. It is a snapshot of a moment in time where instability meets structure.

AN EXHIBITION AT "DE BESTUURING"

Welcome to the realm I have crafted. Allow me a moment to introduce myself: I am “ROUGH.” In this exhibition, I delve into a personal exploration, a journey by the intricate task of defining oneself. “Who am I?” This question often reflects back to your own perceptions.

It is a concept deeply rooted in Western culture, a relentless pursuit of an ever-shifting ideal. We classify, systematize, and impose order on disorder. It is a culture where we relentlessly sort, categorize, and create intricate systems in an attempt to bring structure to the chaos of existence. In this environment, my role goes beyond the ordinary. I embrace an awareness that stretches beyond the confines of perfection and the challenging conventional norms and expectations. My aim? To offer you an invitation, to explore your own interpretation of “ROUGHNESS”, to peel back the layers of perspective and discover something new.
